Ferangeli OM Guitar | The Mango Humpback

There’s some enigmatic charm about guitars made with exotic wood. It’s like Forrest Gump’s box of chocolates.

One exotic wood is Mango wood, made famous by Malaysian Luthier Jeffrey Yong.

Took a gamble on a made-in-Philippines full solid Mango wood guitar by Ferangeli.

The assemblage of the guitar is impressive!

Figured mango top.

Humpback mango back.

5-ply Spanish Cedar, Jackfruit and Ebony Neck

Ebony binding and abalone purfling

Beautifully crafted headstock with mother of pearl inlays.

Uniquely designed Ebony bridge with bone saddle and nut.

Braces!

Unfortunately, that’s about where the goodness stops.

Workmanship is poor with rough edges all round and little imperfections at the joints.

It sounds only decent. I doubt the sonic potential of Mango wood was harnessed in the construction.

All in all, I quite agree with a scathing review of their guitars on their Facebook page.

“Their guitars are just a bunch of exotic wood glued together.”

“Looks and priced like a Ferrari, drives like a Toyota.”

Couldn’t have described it better myself.
