Today I am 55 years old. Wow. Time flies. I felt like it was only yesterday that I was 8 years old wahahahaha!!!
Birthday means makan, right? And when you are a carnivore, very susah. But if you are like me, a practical and easy going carnivore, you can make exceptions. From time to time. Not every time.
So I headed here.
Seppia & Polpo at The Starling. There are dishes that I can eat there and I know because I had already surveyed the menu.
A very charming lady (I assume she is Italian) showed me to my table.
After I was seated, a very warm and friendly server presented me with the menu.
Let me share the menu with you.
Appetizers and tapas, great for sharing. And then there is soup.
There is quite a variety of pastas. These I will save for a future visit. I will eat carbohydrates once in a blue moon.
There is also a great selection of pizzas. This one I have to haul my brother along. I am very shy to eat one pizza by myself in public.
There is risotto, meat (yup! my section) and fish.
And of course desserts and beverages.
What’s a birthday without dessert, betul tak? heh..heh… So for my main meal I had the Stinco D’Agnello – Braised Lamb Shank. And a visit to an Italian restaurant would be incomplete without trying their Tiramisu, right?
I did not get any drinks because I prefer no liquids as I tend to get bloated. I was early to lunch and practically had the whole restaurant to myself.
I would say that the ambiance has a positive vibe as I found myself very comfortable and at home. I am quite sensitive to my surroundings and there are places where I don’t feel at ease, but not here.
Ah! Look at that. My Braised Lamb Shank. Beautiful!
It was wonderful! Cooked until very tender and falling off the bone. I was a little concerned about the Italian herbs (which can be overpowering) and tomato sauce (the taste can be a bit strong) but my fears were unfounded.
The flavors were on point and the seasonings subtle and not at all overwhelming. This is the most delicious (western style) braised lamb shank that I have ever eaten!
Yes, I ate the vegetables and potatoes. There is no need to be a fussy pot. A few vegetables are not going to kill me. I almost mopped my plate clean because I enjoyed the sauce so much.
This is my dessert, the Tiramisu, served in a cute bowl.
So good! Not too sweet and beautifully infused with coffee and liquor. If you want to make Tiramisu, I have a recipe here.
Well, I must say that, that was a lovely (sendiri sponsored) birthday lunch. As of the time of writing, I have had no negative reactions (no mental fog and no drop in energy level) towards my meal which means that the ingredients are “clean” and I should be safe to come back.
Kudos to Seppia & Polpo for the warm, friendly and efficient service.
So today I am happy and contented (because stomach full). At 55 I have never felt better and I am thankful to God for leading me in the right path to mental and physical wellness.
Next month I am embarking on a 90 day (carnivore) feasting and fasting challenge and I hope to document my journey beginning October 1st.
This is opposite Jaya Grocer, a space vacated by Go Noodle House.
Adoi. Hotpot. Not quite my thing.
