Shen Niu Beef Noodle House, The Starling

Subsi1
Today I went to inspect Shen Niu Beef Noodle House at The Starling. I need to find more places to eat out that suits my current way of eating.

Subsi2

This cosy little restaurant is located at the basement, opposite Ah Cheng Laksa.

Subsi3

I think they opened very recently, either this week or last week.

Subsi4

The noodles are either dry style or soup and you can choose ramen or kueh teow

Subsi5

Or you could have rice if that is more your thing.

Subsi6

There are also side dishes in the form of salads, dumplings or beef meatballs and of course, beverages.

Since I am carnivore, I chose to omit noodles for my choice of Signature Mix (no) Noodles. I was also curious about the Cold Tripe and I got that too.

Subsi7

Ordering is easy, via order chits but my order was taken by a guy at the entrance who guided me on the menu. He advised me that the soup is Chinese style and not Malaysian style. I take that to mean Taiwanese style? Forgot to clarify.

When ordering, I informed him that I did not want the noodles and I understood that the price will be the same.

Subsi8

It didn’t take long for my order to be served.

Subsi9

The soup is thick and robust tasting, I could detect aromatic spices.

Subsi11

There were tender chunks of beef, a tendon or two, one or two pieces of tripe, one beef ball and carrots. I took just one bite of the beef ball and left the rest. As a general rule, I avoid any kind of processed meatballs as they contain mainly flour/starch.

I found the soup a tad salty, I suppose it would be all right if eaten with noodles or rice. Tastewise, I would say I liked it. It is not bad at all.

Subsi12

The chili dip was quite nice but SUPER HOT as in pedas giler. Some people who love the excitement of getting their tongue burnt will love this dip.

Subsi10

The Cold Tripe salad was quite nice. It had a good balance of sweet, sour and salty. The aroma of shredded cucumber and chopped coriander added freshness to this dish. There is a topping of crispy chili and I found it not too hot, just nice.

Subsi14

I won’t mind coming back as this is a good option for my all meat diet (though I will eat some vegetables but not carbs).

Subsi13

It was not a cheap lunch for sure. Anything involving beef, especially at a shopping mall, is pricey.
