It has been a while since I posted my kitchen disasters. Have you heard of Wanpaku Sandwich?
It was a sensation at one time and yet I only found out about it last year. Where have I been?
Wanpaku Sandwich or Wanpaku Sando is a big ass Japanese Sandwich which is colorful and stacked to the max. It is quite tricky to make these sandwiches as you not only have to layer your ingredients, you also need to wrap the sandwiches neatly, slice it in half and reveal a gorgeous cross section.
I was stoked after watching a few videos. Wah! Semangat!
Then when I started assembling the sandwich, I realized that it was quite a challenge. Wrapping was another obstacle (something I failed at). Wanna see ugly sandwich?
I am not ashamed to show my failures to all and sundry.

It is just too hard for me. I need practice. I am sure I can nail this.
But in the interim, I reckon, it would be a lot easier if the ingredients were all flat and in one (or two) piece(s).
So I made my hampalang version using luncheon meat, fried egg/hard boiled egg, cucumber slices and bak kwa.
Nothing impressive but at least my sandwiches did not fall apart and oh my, they were so good! hee..hee… Imagine, luncheon meat and bak kwa together mmmmpphhhhh!!!
Maybe one day, a beautiful Wanpaku Sandwich might appear on my blog wahahaha!! Good luck! Jia Yu! to me!
