Tourism Object is located in Karangtengah Village, Batur District, Banjarnegara Regency, Central Java Province. The lake is located in the Dieng Plateau which is a paradise for mountain tourism based on natural beauty. In addition to the view of a row of solid hills stretching, Dieng also has lakes with exotic views.

Tourism Object This tourist attraction presents a view that is no less captivating, very interesting for you to visit. Merdada Lake is the largest lake in the Dieng Plateau. This lake has a catchment area of ​​about 75 ha, with an inundation area of ​​about 22 ha.

Telaga Merdada has a contour like in a former caldera basin of a volcanic eruption. The contours of this basin will be clearly visible when you climb the hill around the lake. Merdada Lake does have a beautiful backdrop, surrounded by a row of hills, rows of vegetable plantations owned by residents, and also a stretch of mini forest around the hill. Apart from being located around the hills, these vegetable gardens are also located on the outskirts of the lake.

Telaga Merdada has two functions, namely as a tourism location and a source of irrigation for local people’s agriculture. Around the lake, you can see pipes that carry water from the lake to the people’s fields. Agriculture is the main livelihood of the people in the Dieng Plateau. It is said that the water in Telaga Merdada never recedes even though it is entering the dry season and is sucked up continuously to irrigate the fields.

Merdada Lake as tourism can be seen from the potential possessed by this lake. Besides having cool air, beautiful scenery, this lake is also equipped with motorboat rental facilities to surround the lake. This lake is also spread seeds of freshwater fish that can be fished. History

The origin of the name Telaga Merdada is related to wayang stories. Where a Rishi named Gautama who has twins named Guwarsi and Guwarso, and a daughter named Anjani. Dewi Anjani often saw her mother holding and looking at an Astina bead cupu (shaped like a cup belonging to the Gods). One day, he asked his mother for permission to borrow cupu beads. The twin sister who has a passion for hunting was also curious about what her sister saw.

Finally, the three children of Rishi Gautama fought each other to get cupu manik. Annoyed, the rishi finally threw cupu beads into the lake which was finally named Merdada Lake. He also told his children that anyone who could catch it would be able to have it. The three of them finally competed to be able to get the heirlooms belonging to the gods.

And on the way, they ‘cool’ and rest while washing their faces. However, what happened was that instantly their faces turned into monkeys. From then on, they realized that it was greed that led them to their doom. Finally, the three decided to become servants and devote their lives to good.

When you are in the Merdada Lake area, you can see a lake surrounded by cliffs and green hills. To be able to enjoy the beauty of the lake, you are required to go down the hill because this area is quite sloping. In addition, there are also many local residents who fish in the lake because there is plenty of abundant fresh water. The atmosphere of the lake feels so cool and calm because this place seems to be isolated from the outside world with hills and mountains as a protector.

At the Merdada Lake tourist location, other facilities are also provided in the form of a boat. A boat that can be used by visitors if they are interested in circling the lake. In addition, because of its natural beauty, the vicinity of Merdada Lake is also often used as a camping site.
