Cacaban Reservoir is located in three areas, namely Kedungbanteng District, Jatinegara District and Pangkah District, Tegal Regency – Central Java Province. The area of the reservoir is 928.7 hectares and contains 90 million m of water. This reservoir is supported by a forest scenery background with a beautiful panorama.
The reservoir, which can accommodate 63 million cubic meters of water, will take about 6 years to build. Work on the reservoir was completed on May 19, 1958. Bung Karno, who laid the groundwork for the construction, was planning to attend the inauguration of the Cacaban Reservoir, but due to other urgent activities, the inauguration was carried out by his subordinate, namely Mr. Sartono.
History
In 1952, President Soekarno visited a remote area, in Tegal, Central Java. In that place he built a reservoir in Tegal which was named the Cacaban Reservoir. The laying of the first stone in the reservoir was carried out by Bung Karno who came to the location while holding the Sweeping Stick of the Universe. Apparently, the name Cacaban was a given name from Bung Karno.
Before the reservoir was built, the area was a deep river. At that time his name was Kedung Pipisan. Kedung means a very deep river, pipisan is a container for concocting medicine. After 6 years of work, Soekarno also changed the name of the place, which was originally Kedung Pipisan to Cacaban Reservoir. The word ‘Cacaban’ has its own meaning. “The origin of the word is from the Javanese language, namely ancaban which means to attract attention or to make people curious. What he meant by giving the name Cacaban to the reservoir was that he wanted this reservoir to be an interesting object to visit.

Cacaban Reservoir can be reached by two routes, first from Tegal City via Kramat – Pangkah – Cacaban Reservoir for approximately 20 km. The second is from Slawi-Pangkah City – Cacaban Reservoir approximately 9 km.
